BINTULU: Muslims should be progressive and united in building a strong nation.

Assistant Minister of Infrastructure Development Datuk Talib Zulpilip said in order to have a strong nation, the people need to have strong discipline, quality and integrity.

He said the young people are the catalyst of future generations and thus they should have all these good values.

The Jepak assemblyman said this at the 2016 Maulidur Rasul gathering and procession at the Bintulu old airport yesterday.

“In line with the theme of this year’s celebration ‘Ukhwah Islamiah Asas Penyatuan Ummah’, we as the followers of Prophet Muhammad have to remember the struggle of our beloved prophet in propagating Islam,” he said, adding that now the Muslims enjoyed the fruit of faith and Islam.

Talib, who is also Assistant Minister of Urbanisation, said the gathering yesterday was a sign of unity and strength of religious and racial brotherhood between all races in the state.

He appreciated the presence of people from all walks of life at the gathering and procession as a sign of solidarity among Muslims.

Among those present at the event were Bintulu Resident cum organising chairman Muhamad Yakup Kari, Bintulu Development Authority general manager Rodziah Morshidi, Bintulu Islamic Religious Department officer Ustaz Syed Harold Salleh Wan Mohammad, and Temenggong Abang Suhaili Abang Mohammad.

Awards and recognition including prizes for various competitions were also presented during the event.

Five recipients who received awards recognising their contributions to the society were led by Ali Fathullah Harun, Ahmad Mukarrom Sunoryo, Selamah Arsat, Hamdani Kasah and Sharkawi Othman.

Meanwhile, the storytelling competition (boys’ category) was won by Ahmad Irfan Abqory Amir Hamzah followed by Danial Haikal Jeffery and Shamer Shahrul. In the girl’s category, first to third place respectively went to Nur Sakinah Ramahni, Aqilah Zafirah Mohammad and Amyratun Najyna Syatirah Amir Hamzah.

Amarizal Mohamad Arbi won the men’s archery contest while second and third place respectively went to Abdul Latiff Abdul Rani and Khalidi Mohamad Idris.

In the women’s category, Rozana Baily grabbed the first place followed by Norazreen Rabaie and Rahmah Ali.

In the children category, the first to third place winners were Azri Azhar Abdul Hamid, Muhd Nur Asfa and Muhd Zulkarnain Issmir Safrudin respectively.

Surau Ar-Raudhah B emerged the champion in the street soccer competition beating Masjid Al-Mustaqim, RPR Kidurong, while jointly in third place were Remboi-Remboi (Surau Darussyakirin) and Masjid Darul Hidayah MLNG Housing.

The winners for the procession and placard competition were SK Kidurong 2 (Primary School category); Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu campus (Secondary school); Surau Darul Islam Kpg Jabai (Mosque/surau); Bintulu Development Authority (Government Department); Bintulu Immigration Department (Uniformed Bodies); JKI Bintulu Port (Private sector); Sarawak Federation of Women’s Institutes /Penan Muslim Mile 10 (Association/Organisation/Club).
