BINTULU:
Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) will need to be transformed in order to make it more effective and efficient in providing service to the people.

The first woman to be appointed as general manager of BDA, Rodziah Morshidi, told reporters that this is necessary to make the BDA administration in tandem with the state civil service transformation initiatives to be a world class organisation by 2020.

For me world class means when we are able to provide excellent services and the people appreciate our efforts,” she said in a press conference after chairing her first BDA management meeting at Wisma Bintulu yesterday. She also said a major enhancement would be carried out to uplift the administrative machinery and capacity of BDA so as to be an efficient local authority.

“The essence is to serve the public and we will continue improving to give the best services.

“With the strong support and commitment of the staff in BDA we will improve our service for the people. I admit there will be some constraints but there is no constraint that we cannot overcome,” she stressed.

During a meeting earlier, she shared her views and ideas on what she observed when visiting the town recently regarding the importance of upgrading public facilities for the convenience of the people.

With years of experience in the state civil service, holding various positions in six different agencies and departments, Rodziah believes there are more contributions that she can offer through BDA.

She is no stranger to BDA as she was there from 1983 to 1999.

Rodziah was previously the permanent secretary of Ministry of Welfare, Women and Family Development and served as Kuching Division Resident and Samarahan Division Resident during her 32 years in government service.

“With all these exposures and experiences I can give something to BDA and the people,” she added.

She thus thanked the Chief Minister and State Secretary for the trust given to her to lead the administrative machinery in BDA.

She said more follow-up meetings with other units and agencies would be made before she can come up with strategic plans and identify the areas that need to be further enhanced in line with the people’s aspiration.

Others attending the press conference were BDA deputy general manager Mohammad Bohari Kipli, secretary Siti Aishah Othman and other senior officers.
