BINTULU: The Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) aims to put more emphasis on enforcing laws under the Local Authorities Ordinance this year.

Its general manager Rodziah Morshidi said this was a follow-through of BDA’s focus on educational and awareness programmes carried out in 2018.

However, in order to achieve its goals for this year, she said BDA – as the only local council here – will need cooperation from all parties including the media to channel information and complaints to them for action to be taken.

“It is impossible for BDA to cover all corners of Bintulu and we need our media friends to channel the information and complaints to us,” she said during a media appreciation night hosted by BDA on Tuesday.

Rodziah added that she hoped those with any complaints on BDA’s services would refer to them first and give them 24 hours to solve the problem, instead of complaining directly on social media.

“If we (BDA) are unable to solve the problem within that time (24-hour period), then by all means you can upload it (complaint) on Facebook or whatever news platform!” she exclaimed.

She reminded that there is a need for the media to provide fair coverage on what is happening in society, with no intention of humiliating any particular organisation.

Rodziah assured that BDA will continue its mission to make Bintulu the cleanest town in Sarawak, and called on the media to assist them in promoting the people and the town.

“As a government agency responsible in municipal services, we try our best to give the best service that we can. Work together with us and let us make this (improving Bintulu) our joint responsibility,” she said.
