BINTULU: Years of experience helped Mohammed Rosli from the ‘o@g Anglers Bintulu club’ earn the grand cash prize of RM10,000 at ‘Jom Ngail Bintulu 2016’ yesterday.

The seasoned competitive angler managed to land a whopping 4.52kg catch after 10 minutes of ‘fight’ during the competition at Bintulu Waterfront Promenade.

“I never expected to win RM10,000 today – it’s my maiden victory throughout my years in fish angling,” said Mohammed, 42.

Asked on his plans for the money, he said half of it would be donated to Peryatim Bintulu and also to several local suraus and mosques.

“I will save up the rest for my children’s education,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mohammed hoped that the organiser would be able to attract more anglers from across Sarawak and Brunei to the event in the future so that it would be more challenging for the participants.

Finishing successively behind Mohammed were anglers from Mahaguru Pancing, Ali Sahak, Mohd Omar and Bahril clubs.

Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) Sports and Recreation Club (KSR) Jessica Landsay presented the prizes.

The competition, organised by BDA KSR in collaboration with Team Binda Anglers and Bintulu Fishing Club, gathered over 100 anglers.

The first to fourth runners-up received RM3,000, RM1,000, RM500 and RM300, respectively, plus a fish tackle set each. Anglers placing from sixth to 10th each bagged RM100 and a fish tackle set, while those from 11th to 20th place were given RM50 each.
