SIBU: Sticking advertisements on road signages can compromise public safety, says Assistant Minister of Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil.

“It’s not civic-minded to do that. The local council would remove such ads or call those concerned to take them down,” he said.

On another front, Penguang noticed that some councils put up notices at coffee shops reminding all that any sale of illegal lotteries was not permitted at the premises.

He said this when asked to comment on The Borneo Post article, stating that Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) would enforce a ban on the sale of illegal four-digit (4D) lotteries at 400 food premises in areas under its jurisdiction including Tatau and Sebauh.

BDA assistant general manager (environmental services) Wan Ibrahim Wan Ali said the immediate ban would be an additional condition for all food operators within the jurisdiction.

“As far as enforcement is concerned, sale of illegal lotteries comes under the purview of the police while the premises come under the council,” Penguang said.1074/5000
