GS1 edge ABF7 for Bintulu tennis title

BINTULU: Greensports 1 (GS1) beat ABF7 2-1 in a thrilling final at Kidurong Club to emerge champion at the Bintulu Tennis Championship 2017 yesterday.

In the singles match, Alvin Ting put GS1 in the lead after a closely contested battle to beat Wan Abdul Muiz Wan Abdul Aziz 3-6, 6-2, 7-6.

ABF7 levelled the score in the first doubles when Kho Lip Khoon-Ahmad Hazeeq Ahmad Hisham came from behind to defeat Shawn Lee-Kelvin Chong 3-6, 7-6, 6-4.

It took another three setter before GS1 could claim victory after Gilbert Yeo-Razlan Rawi overcame Mohd Faeez Said-Talhah Mohamad Rahizam  6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in the second doubles.

Prizes were given away by Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) assistant general manager Abdul Rahim Abdullah on behalf of BDA general manager Rodziah Morshidi.

The annual tournament was organised by Bintulu Division Lawn Tennis Association (BLDLTA) in collaboration with BDA Tennis Academy and Kidurong Club Bintulu Tennis Academy.

BDLTA president Sulaiman Sahari said the event was part of their continuous effort to further promote the sport in Bintulu especially among the youngsters.

Over 70 players from 12 teams took part in the three-day tournament.
