Old Bintulu airport to be turned into largest recreational Park

Bintulu : The Old Bintulu Airport site will be turned into the district's largest recreational park through municipality approach by the National Landscape Department in cooperation with Bintulu Development Authority ( BDA ).

Deputy Director General of National Landscape Department (Development), Hajah Rotina Binti Mohd Daik explained that municipality landscape approach is an integrated development project which connect the nodes areas within the city with the recreational areas through green linkages.

She said the approach also meant to develop green areas within the town and improve the function and external usage to meet the public's needs.

She disclosed that the development of the integrated recreational park will be done in three phases with leisure enclave's concept.

"The first phase covers the construction of a Festival Park at the Old Airport Site, followed by the beautification of the Park Clock Tower (Taman Menara Jam) at DUN Road and upgrading of the present landscape along Jalan Abang Galau.

"The Construction of the festival park which includes a festival ground, parking for food truck, children playing area, aerodrome plaza, exercise ground and water plaza is expected to start by the end of this year.

"The second and third phases cover various types of lane construction at the front and back of the recreational park," she said.

She said this during the public participation on proposed development of municipality landscape development held at the Wisma BDA yesterday.

Rotina said the public participation on proposed development was vital as it enable the department to gather feedbacks from the public, government agencies, private sector as well as non- governmental organizations on the proposed development.

Meanwhile, BDA assistant Senior Manager (Environmental Section) Wan Ibrahim Wan Ali said the construction of the park was to create another attraction for the community in this district.
