BINTULU: The ‘Sarawak Solidarity Walk 2019’ here received overwhelming response that the organisers had to revise the initial 100-participant target for this event.

Prior to the flag-off at Tanjong Batu here last Saturday, the number of registered participants reached 541. They took part in two categories – the 4km route and the 2KM route slated for individuals with disability.

Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) general manager Rodziah Morshidi was present to flag off the run, which was an initiative under Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development. The Sarawak Solidarity Walk 2019 involved several districts in Sarawak, which had been chosen to be the hosting pioneers of solidarity-oriented programme.

In her remarks, Rodziah said in other districts, the event also received full cooperation from the local offices of government departments and agencies such as the district offices, the Welfare Department and the Education Department.

“In Bintulu, the event was jointly organised with the Bintulu District Office and BDA, with the support from other state and federal government bodies. It was initially open to the first 100 entries, but due to the encouraging response from the public, additional slots were later added,” she said.

The Sarawak Solidarity Walk 2019 covered three activities – aerobics exercises, plogging (picking up rubbish while walking/jogging) and lucky draws.
