BINTULU: The State government and Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) would look into issues raised by residents here against the proposed construction of the Maskat landfill in order to find a win-win situation between the parties involved, Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Electricity and Telecommunication) Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi Utom assured.

“We are prepared to sit down with the authorities and we are not against the project but we need solutions for a win-win situation,” he said when asked to comment on the issue.

Several community leaders in Sebungan, Pandan and Sebauh have voiced concern over the project.

According to Rundi, he had met the community leaders and hoped the authorities concerned would listen to their views.

The Kemena assemblyman said he had spoken to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem on the issue and the Chief Minister would look into the matter carefuly.

Meanwhile the general manager of Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) Rodziah Morshidi in a press conference recently said the residents should not be worried because the new Integrated Waste Management System project sited on the 500 acres near Ulu Pandan would be using a high-tech solid waste treatment method.

She said the system which received national and international recognition in management standards had been used in Mambong, Kuching and in other plants around the world including Germany.

However she said BDA will follow-up the case to get more feedback among those who were againts the project.

Rodziah pointed out that the new landfill was urgently needed to replace the existing dumpsite at Kidurong.
