Among the secondary schools, the Bintulu Government secondary School (SMK Bintulu) is the oldest and largest and caters for students from form one to sixth form. It is also one of the best in Sarawak in terms of performance in public examinations.

Residents in Bintulu find no problem in seeking both primary and secondary education for their children because of adequate facilities to meet their requirements, including religious education. There are also plans to build more primary and secondary school to meet future demand.  There are also plans to build an international school in Bintulu. Due to low demand, the plan had been put on hold. Meanwhile, children of expatriate staff are enrolled in English and Dutch classes conducted by the staff of the Malaysia LNG Sdn. Bhd.
