PAK LAH VISIT SAMALAJU
BINTULU : The infrastructural development of Samalaju Industrial Park, the centre of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE), is fast gaining momentum.
Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) general manager Datu Mohidin Ishak, in a briefing to former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi who was on one day visit to the project site, said the 7,000 ha industrial park which currently has a proper coastal road system will also see the development of the 2,000 ha Sama laju New Township. Besides the township development, the order proposed projects are an electricity transmission plant, water treatment plant, ports and others facilities.Also present were Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) chief executive officer Datu Amar Wilson Baya Dandot as well as Water Supply and land Development Assistant Minister Sylvester Entri Muran. After the briefing, Abdullah, who was accompanied by his wife, Tun Jeanne Abdullah, toured the project site before leaving for Bintulu town before returning for Kuala Lumpur.
In Kuching yesterday, Abdullah said the development of the five regional economic corridors under the Ninth Malaysia plan, which aim to achieve balanced development in the country, is going according to schedule.
Besides SCORE, the other four regional economic corridors are Iskandar Malaysia, East Coast Economic Region (ECER), Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) and Sabah Development Corridor(SDC). He said the government has spent RM244.3 billion to develop the five regional economic corridors.
