BINTULU (Oct 29): Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang has called for stronger coordination and collective action among all relevant agencies to strengthen Bintulu’s flood preparedness ahead of the monsoon season.

He made the call following a flood prevention coordination meeting chaired by Bintulu district officer Awang Mohammed Nizam Awang Ali Bohan yesterday.
The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA), Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), Public Works Department (JKR), Civil Defence Force (APM), Welfare Department, and the police.
According to Pang, the meeting reviewed recent flash floods that hit several areas in Bintulu and discussed ongoing preventive measures.
Pang noted that although water levels have subsided, many residents remain concerned about potential flooding during the year-end period.
“I fully understand the concerns of our residents. That is why I am actively pushing for the upgrading of old drainage systems across Bintulu, especially in residential areas where flood risks are highest, to ensure smoother water flow and better flood control,” he said.
Pang stressed that flood prevention requires teamwork and continuous commitment from all agencies involved.
“I have urged all departments to maintain close cooperation, continue regular drain maintenance, enhance flood prevention infrastructure, and ensure full readiness before the heavy rains arrive,” he said.
He added that flood prevention is not the responsibility of one person or agency alone, but requires coordination and dedication from all sides.
