On 8 February 2026 (Sunday), the Lembaga Kemajuan Bintulu was officially recognised at the Recognition Ceremony as a Candidate City for the Child-Friendly Cities Initiative. The ceremony was held at UCSI Hotel in Kuching and was officiated by Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Premier and Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, together with six other local authorities.

During the same ceremony, the Plan of Action for each local authority was also presented.

For the city of Bintulu, the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) outlined four key themes in its Child-Friendly Cities Initiative Plan of Action.

The four themes, along with one proposed activity under each, are as follows:

Theme 1: Every Child Survives and Thrives
• Provision of recreational areas for children of different ages and abilities.

Theme 2: Every Child Learns
• Increasing the frequency of mobile library services.

Theme 3: Every Child is Protected
• Organising anti-bullying awareness campaigns.

Theme 4: Every Child Participates
• Organising town hall sessions and forums with children.

This initiative marks a progressive step towards creating a safer, more inclusive, and responsive urban environment that addresses the needs of children. Continued commitment from all stakeholders is essential to ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive in a supportive and conducive setting.

May this effort serve as a catalyst for more sustainable urban development, with a strong focus on the future of the younger generation.
