BINTULU (Aug 8): Tumbina Park Bintulu offers an attractive recreational, educational and tourism destination for local and out-of-town visitors to explore the town’s rich flora and fauna. Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) deputy chairman Dato Haidar Khan Asghar Khan said the park also helped foster environmental appreciation, strengthen community participation and encourage sustainable development practices among the public.

“Our environment is a priceless treasure and a trust that must be preserved collectively.

“Every tree planted, every river protected, and every effort to conserve biodiversity is a meaningful investment for the future of our children and grandchildren,” he said at the opening ceremony of Tumbina Festival 2026, held in conjunction with the 35th anniversary of Tumbina Park Bintulu at the park in Jalan Pesisir, Tanjung Batu Beach here.

Haidar Khan also urged all parties to work together towards ensuring that the development would continue to go hand in hand with environmental conservation so that today’s prosperity could be passed on to future generations.

On the festival, he said supported the government’s aspiration of achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“The event also aligned with BDA’s commitment under its Strategic Plan 2024-2030, which emphasises that development should not be measured solely by economic progress but balanced with social well-being and environmental conservation.”

According to him, between 55,000 and 65,000 visitors are expected this year, based on the success of last year’s event, which attracted 59,514 visitors.
